Welcome to Michael Broome Photography!

One of my favorite New Orleans bands: Strange Roux has a new EP available for purchase. Check it out, I hear their photographer is pretty good...

An article by 'Where Y'at?!' writer Greg Roques takes an in depth look at the band and their influences.

Strange Roux is a relatively recent addition to the New Orleans music scene, but one that should defi nitely be noticed. Their Southern roots rock sound and their high-energy performances make this a band you should not wait to see. Their lead vocalist, Michelle Cunningham, gives off a seductive, powerful Amy Winehouse sound that pairs well with the swamp-rock feel of Strange Roux. With musical inspiration ranging from the ‘30s till today, and an intricate and collective songwriting process, it’s no wonder they were featured as one of New Orleans’ “up-and-coming” bands in 2011. Their first E.P. Boogieman was recently released, and has been receiving great reviews. Be sure to catch them performing at One Eyed Jack’s this July alongside another groovy band, Gravy Flavored Kisses. With an eclectic style that cannot be compressed into one genre, Gravy Flavored Kisses combines elements from reggae, blues, rock and gospel all into their unique sound. With two E.P.s already released, and an album on the way, this is surely a band that will have you on your feet and grooving to their sound. Both bands deliver unique, funky jams that will make this show one-of-a-kind. – Kelsey Reiss
